All is well with the newly relaxed hair. It's not bone straight but that's ok. I've been washing it weekly. I used Nexxus Emergencee after the first wash to get some protein back. Last week I deep conditioned and used the rest of the phyto milky reconstructor. I've been blowdrying after each wash. I seem to lose a good amount of hair when I do that so perhaps I'll start airdrying (using the scarf method) to get my hair straight.
My ponytail seems to be thickening up since I've been baggying. I currently use Neutrogena triple moisture serum and the last little bit of my black castor oil on my ends and then baggy. My hair feels so moist in the AM. I'm committed to baggying for at least a couple months to see how my ends do. And I'll continue to keep my hair under wraps!
I found a new fall and I hope it works out. I went shopping for a phony tail but the hair was really shiny and fake looking and I didn't feel like spending a lot for a human hair piece. I'll check my regular BSS this week.
I relaxed my hair on March 29 sort of on a whim. I woke up and decided, I'm going to relax today. So I gathered all my supplies, read the instructions, read LHCF's Sisterslick tips on relaxing that I wasn't aware of (i.e. keeping the hair straight during the washing and neutralizing phase).
I used Phyto relaxer index II. I will use this relaxer again barring any breakage issues. It was really gentle and didn't burn. My scalp "cooled" towards the 22 minute mark, but it never burned. When I first opened the package, there seemed to be only a teeny bit of the relaxer in the plastic container and I was worried that I wouldn't have enough to do my virgin hair. The relaxer actually thickens and expands after you mix it. I actually wasted about half of it because I had more than enough to do my hair. I applied in in 7 minutes and spent the rest of the time smoothing. After I finished rinsing, neutralizing and deep conditioning, I decided to use a hand held dryer to blow out my hair straight. I was pleased with the results.
I think I've gotten good growth since I cut my hair d/t the wig challenge. I plan to continue wearing my falls and not manipulating my hair. I also have clip in extensions that I can use to do a bun/messy updo with.
Now that my hair is straight, I plan to keep better tabs on growth with photos and stuff. I'm probably going to trim in a month or so to get rid of straggly ends.
Today, I'm feeling a little frustrated with my hair. I keep thinking: I've been on hair forums since November of 2003. My hair should be BSL by now! I made a valiant effort in the beginning to learn all about haircare and use the right products and pamper my hair. And it seems to not have made a bit of difference. I am very disappointed in my natural hair because I believed it would grow effortlessly without chems. But, it hasn't proven to be true.
I'm definitely planning to relax. (Haven't decided when.) But, I'm toying with the possibility of cutting my hair off and rocking the "Halle." I used to rock the HELL out of short hair and felt completely sexy with it. Maybe I need a change? I'm just not looking forward to the high maintenance. . .
I would give anything to just be able to wear my hair in a low bun.
I don't know what I'm gonna do. I'm tired of wearing wigs. I want to wear my own hair out. But I want my hair to be my "crown and glory." What's the problem, yo?
I'm finally getting around to deep conditioning my hair. I have a concoction of Amla oil and LeKair conditioner on my hair. I usually use the Amla oil on my dry hair but I wasn't in the mood to pre-condition my hair.
I can't believe that the Amla oil actually works to naturally darken hair. When I first hear that it does that, I thought to myself, whatever. How can an oil darken you hair? But my hair is a nice natural jet black and I love it. I've always loved my hair to be jet black, but I haven't colored it in a long time to give it a break. If you're looking for something to do the trick, try Amla. It has an herby smell that I can't describe, but at least it doesn't linger once you wash it out.
As far as progress, my hair is thickening up. I have no idea about growth. I'm trying to not obsess about it. But there are days I just wish I had at least APL hair just so I could wear a bun. But patience is a virtue! (even though I've been pretty patient about my hair).
The wig challenge continues! I'm getting a little bored with my fall, but I know it always looks good. My hair is always "done." I'm just trying to pay attention to my hairline and nape. I use Vatika oil on those areas a couple times a week.
I'm still wearing my half-wig/fall but I am starting to notice breakage at my hairline probably due to the comb attachment. Argh! So, my strategy is to flat twist my hair all going back instead of doing 2 flat twists to the side like I was doing before. I think my hair is back to the length it was before I chopped, which isn't bad in terms of the time it took.
Also new to my routine is ayurvedic products. I only prepoo with amla and use shikakai to rinse. I've stopped using the shikakai though since I read that it shouldn't be used alone. I need to visit the indian store again for another powder.
I'm also thinking relaxing again. *Gulp* Actually I have it in my bathroom: phytospecific Index 2. I've always wanted to try this perm so I decided that I should do it now, while my hair is not at a length that I would be pissed if I had to chop it again. When I permed my hair last year I used Mizani and then switched to ORS no lye. I didn't make that much progress. I just want to try the Phyto and see if I like it.
I'm also getting back on my hair vits again. GNC for now. Thinking about Phytophanere.

I love that my hair is basically no work. I just wash once a week or every two weeks, deep condition, moisturize and I'm good to go! My hair feels so much better now that I've left it alone.
I'm currently wearing a fall/quick weave by Freetress called Sophia Girl:

I bought it when I was relaxed because it blended pretty well with my hair. The texture is similar to yaki/relaxed hair texture although it's a touch shiny. But it doesn't have that synthetic fake shine. I just wear it with my hair covered with a headband. I actually cut a few inches off it. I should probably get another one.
Now with winter coming, I don't have to worry about how a hat is going
to damage my hair. I can wear all the cute winter hats I want.
I'm going to leave a conditioner on my dry hair overnight and see how
it feels tomorrow. My hair is feeling really good since I've been
leaving it alone. I've been using black castor oil to seal in
moisture after my weekly or biweekly washes. I think I'm going to
continue this through the winter since it keeps my hair
moisturized.
I washed my hair last week, used Pantene Hydrating curls and deep conditioned with ORS Olive Oil conditioner. My hair is dry though cause I was slacking on using my daily leave in. I'm about to slather some black castor oil on my hair and retwist it.
As soon as I finish my deep conditioners, I'm going to try Dominican products from Jennifer MD.
My regime is so simple that I think I'll see great results. I
will proably do a blow out in December for comparison and to do an end
of year trim.
I washed my hair today and not last week as planned. I'm actually
still sitting here with conditioner on my hair. Noticed a good
amount of shedding but considering I don't manipulate my hair between
washings, it might be ok. Will keep an eye on that.
